Boy Scout Troop 877 FAQ |

Q: |
When does Troop 877 meet? |
| A: | We meet most Monday nights from 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm at the Plum Creek Presbyterian Church on New Texas Road, Plum. We meet all year round; you can check our calendar to see if we are meeting a given week. |
| Q: | What are the prerequisites to joining the Boy Scouts? |
| A: | A boy must be either 11 to 17 years old, OR have completed the 5th grade. If he has earned his Arrow of Light, he can cross over with his Webelos patrol in 5th grade. A boy does NOT have to have been a Cub Scout or Webelo to join the Boy Scouts. We have had boys join the troop at age 14, and they could join up until they are 18. |
| Q: | What are your troop fees? |
| A: | Every troop has a different method of funding. We do not charge the scouts any dues; we are a 'pay as you go' troop, and we have voluntary fundraising activities that allow the scouts to raise money for their scout accounts. There is an annual BSA fee of approximately $10 that is due each year. |
| Q: | Is parental involvement required? |
| A: | No, our troop does not require parental involvement, though we do encourage it. We consistently manage to find enough adult help to get things done. However, we are always looking for more help. |
| Q: | Is a Webelo committed to a Boy Scout Troop because his Cub Pack is affiliated with it? |
| A: | No. A Webelo is free to join any Boy Scout Troop that he wishes to join. |
| Q: | What type of Fundraisers do you do? |
| A: | We do a Troop Spaghetti Dinner at the Plum Creek Presbyterian Church once a month, typically from September to April. We also collect aluminum cans for recycling, and participate in the BSA Popcorn Sales. |
| Q: | What is Two Deep Leadership? |
| A: | The BSA and Troop 877 are seriously committed to Youth Protection. Two Deep leadership means that there will always be at least two adults with any scout or group of scouts at any point in time. This is for the protection of the scouts and for the adults. |
| Q: | What is the 'Patrol Method' |
| A: | The Patrol Method is where the Scouts of the Troop run the activitties for the troop, A Senior Patrol Leader (a scout from the troop) is in charge of all activities, and the scouts are divided into patrols of manageable size for the activities. The scouts do their own cooking, cleaning, campsite set up, and organization of activities. Adults help out as needed, but are primarily there for guidance and safety. |
